Careful consideration is essential to select a dog toy that is appropriate for a dog's size, age, chewing behavior and unique style of play. With this in mind, please note the following toys are not intended for chewing:
* Soft and plush dog toys
* Dog toys made of fabric or soft rubber
* Dog Frisbees and flying discs
* Rope toys and tug toys
Think about your dog's behavior when selecting a toy. As a general rule of thumb, it is best not to give a soft toy to a dog that is teething or to a dog that enjoys chewing toys. Soft dog toys will probably be destroyed by a dog that likes to chew. Large breed dogs under two years old may be more likely to shredd any soft toy, no matter how well-made the toy, or how well-behaved the dog.
When selecting a dog chew toy, it helps to understand that the strongest part of a dog's jaw is in the back. Toys that can easily fit in the back of a dog's jaw may quickly be destroyed. Round rubber balls, large cones, and toys that are too large to fit in the back of the jaw are more likely to last longer. When selecting a dog chew toy, also look for our 5-Star Tough rating.
Remember:
* Do not permit your dog to chew toys that are not intended for chewing.
* Select a toy that is the right size for your dog.
* Avoid giving soft dog toys to dogs that chew their toys.
* No dog toy is indestructible, no matter how well made.
* Always supervise your dog while playing with any toy.
